A long time ago, I had a life-altering experience, brought on by a health challenge. Many people experience these life-changing moments, whether it's the loss of a loved one, a home, job, or their health.
Whatever the challenge faced, each provides an opportunity to learn something, to stretch and grow as a human being. If we've become sick, or yet another relationship has failed, it might be a time to review our beliefs and thought processes. It is a time we are challenged to ask key questions. Are we living by our own values and beliefs, or of those we inherited? Are those beliefs helpful or self-sabotaging? Can we see patterns in our thinking that continually let us down? Self-examination is not an easy task and it can be confronting, but, it can also be life changing and life enhancing. With courage and support, we can ask the difficult questions that allow us to strip away who and what we are not, and discover who and what we truly are.
During my own time of evaluation and discovery, I found that journaling was invaluable in helping me work through my own process of self-discovery. I also thought that sharing my journey might help others who found themselves isolated, lost and lonely. I had benefited greatly from what others had discovered and shared with me, and I thought, I might do the same for others, which is why I started writing in the virtual world, about the inner world. The other thing that helped me greatly, was to return to creative pursuits and with it, has come a return to the joy I felt when I was a child. Too many shoulds and ought to, and perfectionism saw me leave this great passion for colour and design, languishing in a dark, dust-filled closet in my heart. But our souls have a way of nudging us in the right direction. For me, being unwell limited my physical movements, and so I began to write, to sew, draw and create. Without that rather large shove by the universe, I never would have allowed myself the time to do something I loved, mostly because I held a belief that artistic pursuits were not valuable or useful. Well, I found out that the opposite is the true. For me, it has been an essential part of my healing program. I share some of my artistic explorations in my blog: www.wisdomelements.wordpress.com Our souls have their own unique way of directing us to the right pathway, even if we might never regain what we've lost, or find we have to live with a new kind of 'normal, if we are able to live at least some small part of our lives through the passion of our soul, then we might find, that we can still live a good life, even if it doesn't resemble anything we're familiar with.
I created this page a long time ago when it held a different purpose. Now, it has morphed, just as I have, into a landing space for those seeking a fellow traveller, willing to explore the more challenging questions about our existence and purpose. The real explorations take place on my blog these days and I hope you'll find some ideas there that are inspiring, useful and that they bring you hope, especially if you're facing life challenges, trying to find the courage to review your life, or allowing yourself to rediscover a long buried passion.
Blessings and may you find your centre and a heart-felt peaceful joy, whatever that looks like to you.
